The Ship’s Setting at Tjelvar’s Grave
Dated to circa 1100-500 BC, Tjelvar’s Grave is one of the best-preserved ship-shaped stone settings in Gotland. The grave is 18 meters (59.06 ft.) long and 5 meters (16.40 ft.) wide. The height of the gunwale stones diminishes towards the center of the ship, which has also been filled with stones to form a boat-deck. A plundered stone-slab coffin, containing cremated bones and a few potsherds, was uncovered in an excavation in the 1930s.
The earliest skeleton found on Gotland so far has been dated to 8000 years ago, but this was before the ship-shaped burials were popular. These types of sites replaced the cairn style grave site, which was made from a rough pile of stones. The stone ship, or ship setting, was an early burial custom in Scandinavia. Several booked into LaGrange County Jail
LAGRANGE â Several people were booked into the LaGrange County Jail from Monday, Dec. 28, through Thursday, Jan. 14, according to jail records.
Trisha Wierzbicki, 30, of the 400 block of West Boston Street, Syracuse, was arrested Monday, Dec. 28, by LaGrange County police on a warrant charging nonsupport of a child. Wierzbicki posted bond and was released Monday.
Justin Bowen, 32, of the 11200 block of West C.R. 800N, Shipshewana, was arrested Monday, Dec. 28, by LaGrange County police on a charge of possession of paraphernalia. Bowen posted bond and was released Monday.
Makayla Malkin, 23, of the 100 block of Searless Avenue, Benton Harbor, Michigan, was arrested Monday, Dec. 28, by the Indiana State Police on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and driving without a license.

Crystal Endeavor, the German-built, PC6-designated vessel for Crystal Expedition Cruises is on track to debut in the summer.
Originally set to launch in August, construction was delayed as the global health crisis forced a shutdown of MV Werften where she is currently under construction.
“While we are certainly disappointed that Crystal Endeavor’s delivery has been delayed, we are encouraged by the progress and dedication of the professionals at MV Werften and are looking forward to introducing this remarkable ship,” said Jack Anderson, Crystal interim president and chief executive.
